Allan Arbus has died

Our beloved Sidney Freedman has finally left the camp. He was 95.

Thank you Allan for the laughs and the sentiments.

Godspeed.

Don't forget Sergeant Zale and Colonel Flagg, as well as Larry Gelbart too.

I confess, when I first saw this thread, I thought, "Oh great, that little troll is back when another one of his 'Allan Arbus is dead' hoaxes", but then I saw Chai was the author of the thread, so I looked on Google and saw that Mr. Arbus did, indeed, die, so now I feel bad.

Next to the possible exception of Harry Morgan, Mr. Arbus had the most soothing voice ever. I could have listened to him read the phone book! I will never forget his role in GFA and how he was one of the reasons I became hooked on the show. In the reunion special Mr. Arbus seemed very much like Sydney..kind, easy going, a bit reserved but warm and friendly. Yet another loss for the 4077 family. :(

Just wanted to stop by and pay my respects to Mr. Arbus and his family. Thank you for all that you gave to us over the years. You are in our hearts and will be deeply missed.

Another sad day befalls the M*A*S*H genre, with more still to come. Each as sorrowful as the last. I am thankful these people, through their expressions, their work and their efforts, have touched my life in many positive ways.

RIP, Dr., Maj. Sidney Freedmen - Mr. Allan Arbus. And thank you!

Mr. Arbus certainly wore his age well. At the time, I never realized that Sidney was only a couple years younger than Col. Potter.

That's what I was thinking; I was really surprised to learn he was 95 when he died, he seemed so much younger, it's hard to think that he was almost the same age as Harry Morgan... I'm tellin' ya, I don't know what it is about the Jews, but they seem to be invincible... I mean look at Abe Vigoda and Don Rickles! XD

I don't know which was the bigger shock to me, the fact that our beloved "Dr. Sidney Freedman" with 2 E's passed, or the fact that Mr. Arbus was 95!!! Amazing!!! He was brilliant in that role. I'll always wish he could have been featured a bit more, but that's the truest compliment one could pay an actor or a show....they always leave you wanting more :)

Well thank you! I happen to be Jewish myself. . .

And most people on my Mom's side of the family (the Jewish side) have lived to be in there 90s or thereabouts. How old is Don Rickles anyway? I saw him on Letterman the other night, man does he look old, but he's still got that same great humor. I love Don Rickles. He's a card!

Very sad to hear about Mr. Arbus. Yet he lived an exceptionally long life and will be fondly remembered for playing such a brilliant character on such a brilliant series. RIP.

By the way, I know what Big Daddy means about Jews being around forever. I just saw a documentary on Mel Brooks last week; the man is 86 yet his wit is still sharp as a knife :)

Let's not forget his marriage to Diane Arbus and his role in Robert Downey Sr's Greaser's Palace!
