ROLL OUT!

There's finally a clip of M*A*S*H's "sister show", ROLL OUT!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e11cq0WY4aE

Larry Gelbart and Gene Reynolds produced this show in 1973, and hoped M*A*S*H's newfound popularity would help bolster this program, but it didn't.

Yikes, that was painful to watch. I could only stand a few minutes of it.

Interesting that Val Bisoglio was in it. He played the cook in M*A*S*H season 10. The scene where he and Hawkeye are making French toast always cracks me up.

There's a couple of other familiar faces from this show as well.

Hilly Hicks (Jed) made two guest appearances on M*A*S*H, first as "Perkins" the penicillin thief from "White Gold" (3x23) and Corporal Moody the racially oppressed medic from "Post-Op" (5x24); and Teddy Wilson (High Strung) was the chopper pilot in "The General Flipped at Dawn" (3x01).

In all honesty... I can kind of see potential for this show, but I think the fact that both CBS and Larry and Gene trying to use M*A*S*H's success to bolster this show is utimately what caused it to fail. That and it seems like whereas Larry and Gene tried to avoid making the war serve as backdrop for lighthearted hijinx at the front on M*A*S*H, they just it all hang out on ROLL OUT!... it comes across as a really silly show.

That was painful.....

Val was also one of the two uncredited PA voices.
Val also was the cook that clashed with Charles and chuckled when Potter said that he was in charge of Charles.

Ed Begley Jr. stared as Conway, the bumbling soldier who was a first class clerk.

I remember that show used to air Fridays at 8 or 8:30; also on CBS and it got off to a late start in November due to some strike in Hollywood that year.

OOPs. I meant that Conway was a first class CHEF!

I have to agree with the general sentiment here. I couldn't really make it through much of it. The "hijinks at the front" remark that was used a few times during the 30th Anniversary special comes to mind. It seems like Just Another Service Comedy; in other words, everything M*A*S*H tried so hard not to be, and thankfully wasn't.

I will admit though, it's always fun to see other characters wearing jeep caps like Radar. :P
