I don't know if anybody else has heard lately, but there were talks for a while of Twentieth Century Fox selling out to Disney, but those talks died down almost as soon as they cropped up. That being said, it appears that Fox is still interesting in selling out to another company, which would mean that all of their properties and titles would be included in the sell . . . which means the future of M*A*S*H might be uncertain, since both the movie and the series are Fox properties. What are you thoughts of M*A*S*H possibly being in the hands of another company?

Twentieth Century seems to be "harvesting", which means they are getting what they can from MASH in its current state without developing anything new. Given its significant syndication, MASH still has value. A new owner with someone of importance that has a vision of what to do with MASH could develop some spin-off or a remake of the show or movie. Either of those would renew interest. I'm not sure how you would know what company would have that someone though.

This is news to me, but I know several of you have more "industry" experience or knowledge than I do. Of course you're right, Finest, but I have a hard time imagining a spin-off/remake of any M*A*S*H material. Surely FOX would have tried that by now? At most, I imagine a buyer might try to get creative about milking the show for the next 10 years or more. Now, THAT might turn out badly, if they cut episodes down further or something similar. But I could see a buyer either getting new slots on MeTV, or perhaps committing the show to some station-specific channel, which is fine...I'll still watch the shows on DVD 99% of the time, as I don't have cable. But I'll catch it when I visit my folks during the holidays :)
Big Daddy O'Reilly View Profile Posted: 11/10/2017 5:41:47 AM	I probably should have been more specific and clarify when I was speaking of the "future of M*A*S*H," I didn't really mean in terms of remakes or spinoffs or anything of that sort, I meant the show's present availablility in terms of syndication markets and home video releases. As far as the latter is concerned, I know a lot of people have been begging for Bluray and other releases that would present the show in high definition and such.

And I would assume they have any unreleased material. It's not clear what companies have a clear advantage or motivation to develop new stuff for MASH.

Ironic that Walt himself was such a innovative pioneer in so many aspects, and that he advised other producers and creators to never sell out and to protect the properties you create because other bigger companies out there will try and take them away from you . . . and that's exactly what his company does.

Seems like MASH could be thrown in the pile of other properties that Disney owns, which would be bad. Or one of the bigwigs at Disney is a fan or remembers MASH when he/she was younger and champions MASH to ensure its continued availability. I wouldn't assume that MASH will be part of Disney long-term. Disney could package portions of the Fox purchase and sell them piecemeal to other companies, too. To me the bigger issue is how big Disney is getting and how much control one company should have over any industry.
