Peace On Us: Noticed Something New

Klinger's appearance in this episode has always been puzzling: he shows up for both morning formations - including the one the following morning of the party, where everybody is clearly hungover and dazed, even him, though he wasn't at the party.

That's something I've always noticed, but here's something new I've noticed: Klinger's shots were clearly filmed on Stage 9, whereas the wider shots of the formations were filmed out on the Fox Ranch. If you pay close attention to the formation at the beginning of the episode, you'll see that Klinger isn't Jamie Farr - it's a stand-in who keeps looking away from the camera to hide their face.

Wonder what that's all about?

I think you might be talking about the guy at the end of the line, to the right of Potter and Radar. However, when Klinger says "here, always here", he's on the other side of the line with the swamp behind him, and someone to his left. That means that the guy you think was a stand in for Klinger was just another stand in for an unnamed member of the staff. it's also hard to tell where it was filmed since the hospital is behind him.

I think that it's Klinger in the party, on the far right, when Goss shows up to talk to Potter. When Major Goss is facing Hawk, Klinger there, in a dress.

I meant the roll call at the beginning of the episode, with Klinger in curlers and a bright yellow robe. In tight shots, he's standing next to Charles, smoking a cigar, much to his annoyance - he even tosses the cigar to the ground after Potter makes the announcement there will be no more smoking near the latrine. Again, those shots are clearly on Stage 9, but the wider shots of the formation are out on the Fox Ranch, and while there's a Klinger in a bright yellow robe, it isn't Jamie, because whoever it is keeps looking away from the camera to obscure and hide their face.

Yeah, well those shots are often done like that, for lighting, where the sun is, and more. I suspect that Potter and Radar may well have done their bit with no-one there. Then, later, in the studio, they do the bit with Klinger, Charles, B.J, Hawk and the rest later without Potter and Radar. The side shot with everyone might have been done last minute, or it could've been a retake, which could explain why Jamie's not there. It doesn't look like him in that final shot, for sure.

This is also done because of shadows.
