The fourth season of The Dead Zone
started on Sunday night. David Ogden Stiers plays Reverend Gene Purdy, the legal guardian for
Johnny Smith, who's played by Anthony Michael Hall. The series airs Sunday nights on the USA Network
at 10pm ET, with reruns on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.

reports that tickets for the July 4th concert by the Newport Symphony Orchestra are now available.
David Ogden Stiers is currently scheduled to conduct the orchestra, with a program that will include
Sousa marches, Charles Ives' "Variations on America," Morton Gould's "American Salute," and Aaron
Copland's "A Lincoln Portrait," which Stiers will narrate. The concert will be at 4 pm July 4
at the Newport Performing Arts Center in Newport, OR. Although the event is free, tickets must be
reserved at the PAC box office.

Gary Burghoff contributed a wildlife painting to a raffle held in Paradise, FL to benefit
the Boys and Girls Club. He also hosted a barbecue in conjunction with the boat launch for
the first All-Teen Team Bass Tournament. Miles Burghoff, one of Gary's sons, organized the tournament
to expose other teenagers to fishing. He was also the master of ceremonies for the events.

received the "Special Jury Award" at the world-renowned Houston "Worldfest" International Film Festival.

the producers of the play were appealing a decision by the Tony Administration Committee which
stated the actors in the play would be eligible for "Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play".
They were hoping Alda would be eligible in the Best Lead Actor in a Play field.
Hugh Jackman will host the Awards on June 5 at Radio City Music Hall

Sondheim Sings: Volume I (1962-72), a collection of songs by composer-lyricist
Stephen Sondheim sung and performed by him, is set for released on May 10. Sondheim wrote songs for
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, the play written by Larry Gelbart (co-creator of M*A*S*H for TV) and Burt Shevelove.
The CD includes a booklet with personal photos from Sondheim and a foreward by Gelbart.

reports that Alan Alda has been nominated for "Best Supporting Actor" for his role as Senator Ralph Brewster
in The Aviator. The Aviator leads all movies with 11 nominations which also include "Best Picture",
"Best Director" (Martin Scorsese), "Best Actor" (Leonardo DiCaprio), and "Best Supporting Actress" (Cate Blanchett).
ABC will broadcast the Oscars live Feb. 27 from Hollywood's Kodak Theatre.

auctions on Ebay. One such auction is for lunch with Mike Farrell, to take place at one of the
Real Food Daily restaurants in the LA area at a time and date to be determined.
One night's accommodation is provided by Hilton Hotels for those winners traveling from out-of-town.

negotiations with the studios over new contracts. The current actors' contract is set to expire June 30
after being extended by a year. SAG TV and film members last struck in 1980 for three months.
The SAG is divided between a group headed by Melissa Gilbert, James Cromwell and Mike Farrell,
and a group that includes Valerie Harper, Elliott Gould and Diane Ladd.

reports plans for an entertainment museum in Florida have been abandoned because of rising expenses.
The Reel Hollywood Entertainment Museum would have occupied 38,000 square feet at the Oceanwalk Mall
in the historic Hollywood Beach Hotel at 101 N. Ocean Drive. It would have featured original sets
from popular sitcoms, archived footage of television shows and movies, and more. The plan was backed by
a nonprofit company and its supporters included Jamie Farr, Loretta Swit, and Bob Eubanks.

was carried out early Wednesday. Beardslee was sentenced to death for the murder of two women in 1981

its nominations for the Orange British Academy Film Awards on Monday. The Aviator led all films
with 14 nominations. It received nomations for: best film, directing for Scorsese,
lead actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), supporting actor (Alan Alda),
supporting actress (Cate Blanchett), original screenplay, make-up and hair,
visual effects, sound, editing, costume design, production design, cinematography and film music.
The awards ceremony will take place Saturday, Feb. 12 in Leicester Square.

SAG nominated the movie
for "ensemble cast", Leonardo DiCaprio for lead actor, and Cate Blanchett for supporting actress.
The American Society of Cinematographers nominated
Robert Richardson for The Aviator; Richardson has been nominated for the award several
times in the past and won an Academy Award for his work on JFK. The ASC's 19th annual awards
will take place Feb. 13 at the Grand Ballroom in the Hollywood & Highland complex.

The Aviator is up for several awards at the 10th annual Critics' Choice Awards.
It received nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), Best Supporting Actress (Cate Blanchett), Best Composer (Howard Shore),
Best Writer (John Logan), and Best Director (Martin Scorsese). The Critics' Choice Awards airs
this Monday 1/10 at 8pm EDT on the WB network.

CNN.com reports The Aviator was among nominees
for best picture from the Producers Guild of America
and best director from the Directors Guild of America.
The 16th Annual Producers Guild Awards will be presented January 22. The Directors Guild winner will be announced at the guild's 57th annual dinner January 29.
Scorsese generally has been viewed as the front-runner to win both the Directors Guild prize and the best-directing Oscar.
He has been nominated five times before by the guild and four times for the Oscar, but he has yet to win either award.

reports Mike Farrell has been announced as keynote speaker for Modesto's annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration.
Entitled "That Divine Spark," his speech will focus on his opposition to the death penalty.
The event in Modesto, CA is scheduled for 7 pm Jan. 22 at the Modesto Junior College Auditorium
and will include entertainment and music. The commemoration is free and open to the public.
