The fourth season of The Dead Zone started on Sunday night. David Ogden Stiers plays Reverend Gene Purdy, the legal guardian for Johnny Smith, who's played by Anthony Michael Hall. Tickets Available for July 4th Concert

The Newport News-Times reports that tickets for the July 4th concert by the Newport Symphony Orchestra are now available. David Ogden Stiers is currently scheduled to conduct the orchestra, with a program that will include Sousa marches, Charles Ives' "Variations on America," Morton Gould's "American Salute," and Aaron Copland's "A Lincoln Portrait," which Stiers will narrate. The concert will be at 4 pm July 4 at the Newport Performing Arts Center in Newport, OR. Although the event is free, tickets must be reserved at the PAC box office. Burghoffs Helping the Paradise Community

Gary Burghoff contributed a wildlife painting to a raffle held in Paradise, FL to benefit the Boys and Girls Club. He also hosted a barbecue in conjunction with the boat launch for the first All-Teen Team Bass Tournament. Miles Burghoff, one of Gary's sons, organized the tournament to expose other teenagers to fishing. He was also the master of ceremonies for the events. See the Chico Enterprise Record for more info.

"One Child in Many" Wins Award

"One Child in Many," the eight-minute film for the Lincoln County Children's Advocacy Center, received the "Special Jury Award" at the world-renowned Houston "Worldfest" International Film Festival. Hosted by Harvey Fierstein, the ceremony will be on May 22 at the LaGuardia Concert Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City. The Awards Ceremony will be taped and a two-hour version will be aired on NYC TV Channel 25 on May 25 and May 27 at 8 PM each night, as well as on Thirteen/WNET on Sunday, May 29, at 12 noon.

Alda Nominated for a Tony

Alan Alda received a Tony nomination for "Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play" for his part in Glengarry Glen Ross. Gordon Clapp and Liev Schreiber from Glengarry Glen Ross are also up for the same category. The play was also nominated for "Best Scenic Design of a Play", "Best Direction of a Play", and "Best Revival of a Play". According to Playbill.com, the producers of the play were appealing a decision by the Tony Administration Committee which stated the actors in the play would be eligible for "Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play". They were hoping Alda would be eligible in the Best Lead Actor in a Play field. Hugh Jackman will host the Awards on June 5 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The ceremony will air on CBS at 8pm ET.

The Santa Paula Times reports that the City Council of Santa Paula, CA has attempted to adopt Sen. Arnold Vinick, a character played by Alan Alda in The West Wing, as a hometown son. It began earlier this year after Vinick said he was raised in a citrus producing area of California. Mayor Mary Ann Krause sent a letter and a box of area citrus products to the producers of The West Wing and Alan Alda.

A kickoff for the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic was held April 5 at the Owens Corning World Headquarters. Presented by Kroger, the 21st annual women's golf tournament is set for July 7-10 at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio, with pretourney events starting on July 4. For the kickoff, Jame Farr welcomed everyone via video from his L.A. home. Wainwright played Captain Spalding, the doctor who also played the guitar and sang songs in a few early episodes. He has been playing and recording folk music for many years. In Oregon, the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners viewed on Wednesday a new video entitled "One Child in Many," by the Children's Advocacy Center (CAC). The video is intended to help educate people about child abuse and about the CAC's programs and services for aiding the victims of child abuse and their families. Undeclared, the shortlived 2001 sitcom about life in a college dorm, will be coming to DVD with the entire series in a 4 DVD set. Earlier this year the state ruled that the musicians are employees and the organization must pay unemployment insurance and other taxes. Consequently, the nonprofit BAY association has canceled the festival this year; it is appealing the state decision. It is scheduled to start previews at the Royale Theatre April 8 and open May 1 for a limited engagement currently slated through Aug. 28. The Royale box office will open March 14 at 10 AM. Friends, celebrities, politicians, preachers, and members of the public, got together last weekend in New York to remember Ossie Davis, the 87 year-old actor and civil rights activist who died February 4. At the funeral, Alan Alda, who first performed with Davis in Purlie Victorious, the play penned by Davis that later won Emmys as the musical Purlie, praised the man he has been friends with ever since. Alda was the last one called because it was done in reverse alphabetical order; he had curled up as if asleep.

One such auction is for lunch with Mike Farrell, to take place at one of the Real Food Daily restaurants in the LA area at a time and date to be determined. Sun-Sentinel.com reports plans for an entertainment museum in Florida have been abandoned because of rising expenses. The Reel Hollywood Entertainment Museum would have occupied 38,000 square feet at the Oceanwalk Mall in the historic Hollywood Beach Hotel at 101 N. Ocean Drive. It would have featured original sets from popular sitcoms, archived footage of television shows and movies, and more. The plan was backed by a nonprofit company and its supporters included Jamie Farr, Loretta Swit, and Bob Eubanks.

The Aviator is up for several awards at the 10th annual Critics' Choice Awards. It received nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), Best Supporting Actress (Cate Blanchett), Best Composer (Howard Shore), Best Writer (John Logan), and Best Director (Martin Scorsese). The Critics' Choice Awards airs this Monday 1/10 at 8pm EDT on the WB network. Check your local listings or TV Guide for times and channels. CNN.com reports The Aviator was among nominees for best picture from the Producers Guild of America and best director from the Directors Guild of America. The 16th Annual Producers Guild Awards will be presented January 22. The Directors Guild winner will be announced at the guild's 57th annual dinner January 29. Scorsese generally has been viewed as the front-runner to win both the Directors Guild prize and the best-directing Oscar. He has been nominated five times before by the guild and four times for the Oscar, but he has yet to win either award.
