Columbia House M*A*S*H Collection

Columbia House offered a collection of VHS tapes with 3 uncut episodes on each tape. There were 71 tapes available in the United States and 50 tapes in Canada. For a listing of which episodes are on those tapes, see my list. Columbia House lost its contract with the manufacturer who produced the M*A*S*H series in late 1998.

121 minutes
Format: VHS and videodisc

The series finale was released in 1983. It was sold to video rental stores and is still available for rent at some stores. I've heard of some small video stores as well as some Blockbuster Video stores with copies available for rent. I have also heard some retail stores such as Suncoast Video have it in their catalog; expect to pay around $70, the regular price for videos not released commercially.

This documentary on the series was made during season 8. The cast and crew can be seen shooting several scenes for "Old Soldiers" and "Lend a Hand"; we even see some bloopers. It has many behind the scenes shots and some clips from the series. There are several interviews with Alan Alda, Larry Gelbart, Burt Metcalfe, and Gene Reynolds. It also has shorter interviews with many writers and directors, as well as cast members Jamie Farr, Mike Farrell, Larry Linville, David Ogden Stiers, and Loretta Swit.

Memories of M*A*S*H
1991 Twentieth Century Fox
Written, produced, and directed by Michael Hirsh
Executive Producers: Gene Reynolds, Burt Metcalfe
Co-Producers: Joel Lipman, Donna Rutley

This documentary on the TV series was narrated by Shelly Long with many shots of her at the old Fox Ranch, the outdoor site of M*A*S*H. There are many clips from the show and interviews with all 11 major cast members as well as with Larry Gelbart, Gene Reynolds, and Burt Metcalfe. The cast members give some insight into how they viewed their characters. The pictures on my cast biography pages are from these interviews.

There are also "M*A*S*H Family Album" moments with brief interviews with the following actors, writers, etc: Linda Bloodworth, Walter Dishell, Mike Jr. and Erin Farrell (Mike's children), Maggie and Ken Stiers (David's parents), Charles S. Dubin, G.W. Bailey, and Kellye Nakahara. It contains a few behind the scenes clips and one blooper clip.

Video Games

M*A*S*H
For Atari 2600 Video Game System
1983 Fox Video Games Incorporated

This video game for 1 or 2 players had three different screens. On one screen, players move helicopters around trees to pick up wounded before returning to base. Or you could choose another screen in which wounded drop from the top with a tank firing at the bottom. Players fly mini helicopters around the field catching as many wounded as possible. In-between rounds of rescuing wounded, players work against the clock on the operating table. Here players use a surgical instrument to remove a bullet from patient after patient through a maze in each patient.
