"I had fun..."
"Yeah..."
One would swear that this was the first time Margaret Houlihan and Hawkeye Pierce had gone out together. It was the umpteenth time, actually.
"It's still early...you want to come to my place?" Hawkeye asked.
"Yeah, I guess." Hawkeye smiled. Margaret gave him a halfhearted smile in return.

Not twenty minutes after they arrived at the Pierces', Hawkeye was called into the hospital where he worked.
"Margaret, I'm so sorry, but there's this patient with -"
"It's okay...I'll see you later," she said, forcing herself to smile at him.
After Hawkeye rushed out the door, Daniel Pierce walked into the room.
"Where'd Hawk go?" he asked.
"He had to go to work for some reason or another," she sighed.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"We never see each other anymore. I mean, we do, but not enough."
Daniel sat down next to her on the couch. "He's a doctor and you're a nurse. Because of that, you have to expect you personal lives to be disrupted often."
"Yeah, I know. Lately, though, it's been so bad that all I want to do is quit. Korea was awful, but what makes it worse is I didn't get a break after it. I jumped right back into work after the war. Now I'm sorry I did ... I'm sorry ... I shouldn't be complaining to you, Daniel. I'll leave now."
"No, really, it's okay...stay," Daniel said as Margaret stood to leave. He grabbed her hand to keep her from leaving. "Besides, there's supposed to be a big storm coming in tonight and, by the looks of things, it ought to hit any time now. Why don't you spend the night here?"
"Well, I guess I don't have much of a choice," Margaret said. "But I am exhausted, so I doubt I'll be very good company."
"That's okay.If you want to go to sleep, you can have Hawkeye's room ... I'm sure he won't mind," Daniel said. He stood and lead Margaret up the stairs and down the hall to Hawkeye's bedroom.
"If you want, you could borrow some of Hawk's pajammas, but I have a feeling they'd be a bit big on you," he said.
"I'm fine...really," she said. She gave Daniel a quick kiss on the cheek to show that she was grateful to him. However, the kiss went a little farther than she had intended. And a lot farther than she had expected.

Hawkeye walked up the stairs and down the hall to his room. He pushed the door open with his foot."Good God! Dad, how could you?" Hawkeye didn't know if he was going to cry or yell more. He chose the latter. "She's a little young for you, isn't she, dad?" he sneered. After discovering his dad had been sleeping with his girlfriend, Hawkeye was not going to be nice."Why, compared to you, she's just a kid. And Margaret. I don't know why this didn't happen earlier. I'm not surprised, really. Now, girl, do me one last favor and get outta my house."
Margaret stared at him with wide eyes. "I'm sorry," she said in a voice a little above a whisper.
"On second thought, don't leave yet. I want to talk to you," he said. Margaret couldn't tell what he was getting at. "Come on," he said impatiently. He grabbed her by the hand and led her down the hall to Daniel's room.
"Why?" he asked.
"Why what?"
"You know what I mean. Why did you do it?" Not only was he angry, but he was growing impatient. "Did I do something and you wanted to get back at me? Or did I not do something?"
She came right out and said what she had been feeling, "I'm in love with your father."

Hawkeye woke up. He rolled over to find Margaret was asleep right next to him. He pulled her closer to him. Then, he yawned and drifted back into a dreamless sleep.

That morning, not long after they had awakened, Margaret asked Hawkeye if she could talk to him.
"Sure," he had replied. She led him into the living room and they sat on the couch.
She took a deep breath and said, "Hawkeye, I'm in love with your father."
Upon hearing what she had just said, Hawkeye's jaw nearly hit the floor.
However, the deep breath she took was to keep from laughing, and it didn't work.
"Gotcha!" she exclaimed.
"You little brat!" Hawkeye grabbed her and pulled her into a tight hug as he, too, began to laugh.
