We had a slight disagreement last night about whether or not that Gary was deceased. I said No, and hubby said Yes...
I just had to find out, and found all this wonderful stuff about Gary, and his life...I LOVED it, and hope Gary and family are doing well at this time...

Comments: I grew up with M.A.S.H. and faithfully watched each weekly episode from #1 thru to the end with my late brother who had served his country and found enjoyment with the series and would point out actors to me and as I grew older ( now 61 years young ) my wife and I purchased the DVD set and watch them with great frequency to the point that Gary is our household name and the cast members are spoken of as though they are household guests. Gary was tops. It would be great if a M.A.S.H. blooper dvd would become available as that would certainly complete our M.A.S.H. film library.

Yeah Yeah, I know, another MASH lover emailing you. Well, I apologize.
Recently I made a hike by myself up to the location at Malibu Creek State Park.
I am not sure what I feel, I guess it is like showing up thirty years too late to a party I might have been invited to.
MASH has affected the way I look at some things, and it saddens me to think that an old ambulance and rusted jeep, (and a graffitied picnic table), are all that remain.
I don't know exactly why I'm writing, maybe it is out of the frustration of Hollywood moving in a direction so much the opposite of what it showed in the 70's and 80's with MASH.
I respect what you did then, and what you support now .

I don't know what really inspired me to look up your website, except when I remember the episodes in Mash where you got close to the animals. Radar was the sweetest human being on the set, there must be a part of radar in me. I smile every time I want to eleviate my day. Thank you Gary for giving us radar, and I'm so impressed with your website that I wanna be just like you. i'm from Gary's high-school town of Delavan.
i never met Gary before, but i did write him a very nice (& long) letter of 5 pages ... i think it was 5 pages. i told him what Delavan was doing with the old Delavan Theatre (now my church) ... how when, in the 1970's the old play-theatre he left in the 1960's became a movie-theatre ... the movie theatre was in business from the 1970's thur 2000 ... & how the building sat empty from 2000-'06 & that my church (river of life christian church) baught the building in May '06, restored it & got it running again.
i even asked him to come "home" to Delavan & speak at the old Theatre ... i only sent the letter out 3 weeks ago (yesterday!) & last sunday (Easter) i saw the letter in my Dad's mail-pile!
Gary, i have to tell you this: When my Dad got the mail on Good-Friday, he thought i was sending letters to myself, only until he saw the post-mark from Cal.! Then, when i came home (from a friends house) on Easter Sunday, i looked confused! i said: "Now i'm sending letters to myself?" (because of the S.A.S.E.) Dad said: "You got a letter, Kiddow!" i said: "Really, Dad?" Dad said: "From Cal.!" then i looked at the return address! and, i said: "Rad--! Dad, he wrote me back! Gary wrote me back!"
you see, i wasn't expecting a reply that soon! i thought i'd get a reply in 3-6 months ... (June '07 or Sept. '07).
Oh, before i forget, happy 64th birthday, Mr. Burghoff!

From another Radar. in my first stint of the military i was a radio man. and they guys used to actualy call me radar, becouse i seemed to have a sixth sence as you do in Mash. I ended up being a Doc type medic with serch and rescue special ops. later. And i also ended up out in hollywood for awile. I was seriousely injured twice. and had to recover from coma and amneisia. last time was the worst. as they did not expect me to walk or talk again. Am very thankfull that i can do both. am going back to you site in a munite,,as this is an area of intrest to me to Gary. A friend from my hollywood days or i should say a few of them came to see me and talk to me through a couple of years in the mid 90s. I was asked if i rememberd Wayne Rogers. for many years i wondered why so many people in hollywood looked more than familuar to me. then i finaly realized when some folks ,,,realy went out of thier way to help me begian a reall recovery. That they looked familuar,,,becouse i actualy knew them. Then a fellow i worked with in 93 for a few months,,,explanied to me,,,there were actualy movies about my real life experences. I really did not believe him at first. But when i got the movies he suggested. i begain to gradualy peice my life back together. It has been quite a revelation and humbelinb experence. Becouse i am really more a radar person in reall life. the heroics me and my buddys experenced were only becouse it was the correct thing to do at the time. Not becouse we were really anything special. If we met years ago,,,then you would know. I am more a Gary (Radar) than anything else. the movies that are based on ture life events,,,some exagerate our personalitys. Mash is one of my favorites,,,becouse it shows the realness of the people who were really there. I also enjoy JAG. as it is also based on my friends real life experencse,,,if you watch the first episods that is. Thank you Gary,,for such a wonder peace of american tv and movie history. Please if you see Wayne Rogers,,tell him,,yes i do remember him. Some lady asked me if i rememberd him some years ago. and also a fellow who i worked with,,for about 3 months,,that said he was from a show biz family. he also asked me if i rememberd quite a few people..He took me out to Calf. and tried to convice me to move back there. i had not really recoverd in memory as much as i have now. it has been a very positive move foward since then. I am still trying to put things in prospective and order. but was told in my last rehab times that i would probably never fully recover. with the memory part. they say it is absolutely a miricle that i can remember at all. I have one former partner,,that dose not really know about the two Head trama injurys. untill lately i think she may have blamed herself for a Pschciatric procedure that she advised. that really had nothing to do with,,my loss of this part of my memory. I only lost some skills with that in the area of my ability to play certin insterments i used to. no biggie. i can relearn. Well please tell Wayne Hey for me. I will eventualy figure this all out.
